The scientific laboratory of hospital-acquired infections was founded in 1976. During its operation, the laboratory conducted numerous studies on important epidemiological matters: nosocomial septic-purulent pathology (determination of epidemiological, etiological and clinical characteristics), optimization of monitoring and control principles of microbial antibiotic resistance, prevention and antibacterial treatment in nosocomial septic-purulent infections, study of local raw material for antibacterial and antifungal activity, development of new antibacterial remedies from local raw material. About 2,000 new indigenous substances of synthetic and natural origin were studied, more than 250 biologically active substances were detected, of which 40 were patented. Four new antibacterial and antifungal preparations and two selective nutrient media were developed. A Surveillance and Control Guide for Nosocomial Infections has also been drawn up.
